History of The Golden Velvet
hen The Golden Velvet first gathered together in 2001, there were 34 girls who were all interested in dancing in a group. During the years the group has developed to what it is today. Some have lost their interest but the most enthusiastic ones are still going along with the ride; including also a boy for a year.
Today there are 15 girls dancing in The Golden Velvet. The youngest ones are 12 years old and the oldest girls are 22 years old.
The Golden Velvet has performed in several different kinds of events, for example Joutsan Joutopäivät, Toukofest, Christmas parties and Lady Golf -event in Hankasalmi.
The group has also experience in competitions such as Musiikista Liikkumaan (in English From Music to Movement) –event in autumn 2004, Svoli Show in spring 2005 (both organised by The Finnish Gymnastics Federation Svoli) and the Finnish Nationals of Showdance also in spring 2005.
The Golden Velvet has a great ambition to perform on stage which is why the group practises various times a week with their coach Johanna Soilu. Strict practising guarantees a magnificent and vivacious show. The shows are always put together for every event so that it serves best the event in which it’s performing in.
The shows include showdance routines, acrobatic tricks, cheerleading lifts and such. Every show has its own theme. There is always something for every event! For example a show called “The Girl Soldiers” is built around an army theme and the upcoming show consists a theme around a jungle with earthly elements and movements.
The Golden Velvet has now performed for four years and reached a great popularity both in Joutsa and in the whole Central Finland. Even outside Central Finland the group will be heard in the near future.
The community of Joutsa supports the Golden Velvet and the group also has seven companies as sponsors. Visibility for the sponsors in shows is ensured with different clothing such as college shirts and coats which have the logos of the sponsors on them.
